Frida

Frida - Bárbara Mujica, Victoria Vuscan It is a difficult book to rate. I was captivated by the multitude of emotions displayed within and yet at the same time oddly distanced from the characters and how they hurt each other and still be together.

I wasn't all that drawn to the book when I started reading this, but then I gave it my attention and the telling pulled me in. No matter the degree of realism and accuracy to what truly happened between the characters, it's an intense journey. It was told in such a way that it really felt like at times, Cristina had lived through Frida's experiences but there were also distinct moments when they were separate women, connected by an array of feelings and emotions.

I can't say I loved the book because ultimately, I didn't enjoy Frida's life and behavior. But it was an interesting reading so I'll give it 3.5 stars.
