I had previously tried another book by the author and had been rather disappointed by the style and rhythm of the story. However, "Devon Cream" was a very nice surprise. I imagine it has to do with the length of time passed between the two were written.It was a pleasure to read this. There was no rush to the sex scenes, or a hasty description of the characters. I enjoyed the relaxed pace of the story and the subtle way in which the readers are introduced to the lives of two seemingly completely different men. [spoiler ahead]Devon was a bit tough to swallow at first, as I feared he would prove to be a leech, sponging off innocent Steven. Glad that wasn't the case. He proved that despite his age, he was capable of deep emotions, along with his gentle nature. Steven.. oh, how I enjoyed him! It was heart warming to see him careful around Devon, putting his feelings aside while still helping the youngster. I could not find him any flaws; he was simply endearing.[end spoiler]
The story slowly led to more interactions between the characters that I found myself reading for pleasure, immersing in their world, almost surprised when the novella ended. I couldn't quite catalog it as amazing but it definitely left me with a pleasant feeling and I could see myself rereading this later on. A definite 4.5 rating for this!
