An Inch at a Time

An Inch at a Time - Heidi Belleau, Amelia C. Gormley

I was put off when I found out the events in this installment happen before Giving an Inch (the Professor's Rule, #1). That alone dropped my rating.

I was ready to see how things evolve after the dressing room incident (refer to first book for more details) and instead I get a flashback to how James and the Professor met. And seeing that I already know how things are going to end, it didn't make for a very thrilling book to read. Oh, the waiting game, the spankings, the angst... they were worth the book. But it takes out some of the joy in reading if I know the ending. There isn't the same intensity to the scenes.

Coming back to the story itself. I liked that the Professor is introduced and has a voice in the story, that he's not just an indistinct character ordering commands through texts. Both he and James are invested in making it work between them, though James is more insecure. Add in some revelations about James's past and I appreciated more the fact that he was studying for his PhD in the first story.

The only down side to this is that I didn't read it before Giving an Inch (the Professor's Rule, #1). I was all psyched for more adventure with James, Satish and Carson and got something completely different in return.
